Natural soap vs synthetic soap

The skin is our largest organ and skincare is one of the most important daily rituals we do with our skin. Soap is one of the most common skin care products that has been used for centuries. Do you know the difference between natural and synthetic soap? And their choice can have a significant impact on your skin and health?
It is not known exactly where the history of soap began, but it is thought to date back thousands of years to Egypt.
The first soaps were found in tombs and were made from olive oil (olive oil is also an important ingredient in VegePure soaps).
Anyone could make soap.
It was made at home from vegetable oils as well as animal fat.
When there was a meal to be eaten (burning wood to warm the food), the ashes were always left over.
This was one of the main ingredients for making soap.
Basically, the ashes reacted with oil to make soap.
Today, wood ash is not used, but is replaced by soapstone, orsodium hydroxide.
Before World War I, only natural ingredients were used to make soap.
Because it was necessary to produce soap quickly and efficiently, it was created synthetically.
NATURAL VS SYNTHETIC
In the simplest terms, natural soap is salt mixed with lye and fat.
Synthetic soap, on the other hand, is more of a soap-like product.
Synthetic soaps are made from a synthetic detergent base, which is usually a variety of sulphates such as sodium laureth sulphate, sodium lauryl sulphate, ammonium lauryl sulphate.

main differences
The most natural way to make soap is from soapstone and fats.
Because water and oil don’t mix, soap making makes it happen.
The molecule of the soap is made up of 2 parts, one part bonds with the water, the other part with the fat.
So, the part that likes the dirt will stick to the dirt and the other part that likes the water will stick to the water and wash the dirt away.
At VegePures we use cocoa butter, olive oil, coconut oil and sweet almond oil as fats.
All soaps are suitable for normal skin.
We do NOT use palm oil, which is cheap and produced from 8% of the planet’s forests.
Natural soaps are generally made by hand and in small quantities.
Their packaging is more environmentally friendly.
Synthetic soaps, on the other hand, are mostly manufactured industrially in large quantities by large corporations.
Such mass production undoubtedly also has a greater environmental impact, not to mention poor working conditions, etc.
By consuming handmade soap, however, you are helping to support local small businesses.
Is natural soap effective?
In terms of cleansing and effectiveness, natural and synthetic soap are equal.
The cleansing power of soap is directly due to the cleansing agent in the soap.

VEGEPURE SOAP STORY
I became interested in soaps in 2023.
in the summer of 2023 when I took a soap course.
I wanted to create something with my own hands and soap seemed particularly exciting.
I thought it would be easy, but it’s not.
However, you need to know what goes with what and it’s very important to follow the recipe.
Our aim is to create handcrafted design pieces, while keeping them as natural as possible.
We use only vegetable fats and oils in our formulations.
We scent with essential oils.
We tend to add less essential oils, so over time the soaps lose their fragrance.
I’m just of the opinion that soap doesn’t need to smell very strong, it’s more when it comes in contact with water and gets wet that the smell comes out.
Our soaps have been praised for not smelling like normal shop soaps ‘soapy’.
We also like to paint it.
We use a lot of clays for this, as they are the most natural way of dyeing, and in addition to the colour, each clay has its own good qualities.
The clays act as a natural gentle exfoliator, removing grease and dirt.
In addition, we want to be original.
For example, our first Christmas web we used our own handmade mild orange peel powder to give a light exfoliating scent and also colour. Green Mint Soap we use freeze-dried strawberry powder.
All of these give the soap a unique finish and enrich the soap with goodness.
ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLINESS
Solid soaps are more environmentally friendly than, for example, liquid soaps/shower gels.
Packaging is the most important.
Our soaps are packaged in paper bags + soap envelopes that can be used as a bookmark later.
Shower gels and liquid soaps, on the other hand, are packaged in plastic bottles, of which we already have many in the world.
So the next time you buy soap to wash your body, why not try solid soap?
