Eco-diapers are a more environmentally friendly choice, offering many benefits for the planet and for the baby itself. These nappies are made from natural, biodegradable materials and are produced with environmental impact in mind.
no additives are used in ecological products
Traditional and well-known nappy brands unfortunately use a lot of additives in nappies.
One simple reason why they are used is to neutralise the smell.
These additives are irritating to the baby’s delicate skin.
And a fairly common problem is reddened skin around the nappy area.
Diaper rash can also be a very big problem later in life.
For example, studies have shown that if the products used contain perfumes or preservatives, they can contribute to allergic eczema.
Additives may include the following chemicals:
- chlorine
- latex
- losjoon
- fragrances
- Phthalates
- allergens
- optical brighteners
- organotin substances such as MBT, DBT, TBT
The vast majority of nappies today use up to 50 different chemicals in total.
Diapers bleached with chlorine contain dioxins.
Dioxins are a group of organic substances that have been tested and found to be fertility- and immune-disrupting and carcinogenic.
When in contact with urine, chemicals are particularly easy to absorb through moist skin into the tissues.
CLOTH NAPPIES VS ECO-DIAPERS
Before the baby was born, I already knew I wanted the best for him and stocked up on cloth nappies.
I used them until 6 months when I switched to eco nappies.
Of course cloth nappies are the best choice because they don’t create waste, but I didn’t have the energy to wash cloth nappies all the time when I was working.
Disposable nappies take hundreds or even thousands of years to decompose in sunlight and air (depending on how they are landfilled).
For example, Libero, Pampers, Huggies diapers will dry out in 300-500 years according to various calculations.
Eco-diapers are usually biodegradable or compostable.
This means that they decompose faster in nature than conventional disposable nappies, significantly reducing waste.
When I was choosing eco-diapers, that’s exactly what I had in mind – something that would break down as quickly as possible, be kind to my baby’s skin and leak-proof.
Today, there are a number of nappy manufacturers whose nappies do not contain chlorine, latex or other heavy chemical compounds, for example.
One of these is KitNKin.
KitNKin diaper front panel, tapes, leak-proof barriers and packaging are made of biodegradable material that degrades within 3-6 years.

''Very nice nappies, as it is important to me that nappies are not impregnated with additives, these are a great choice. The absorbency is great and what's especially good is that the nappies don't get so nappy-weak and heavy like nappies sold in the shops after being under for a long time. The baby is so much more comfortable too.''
''I was using cloth nappies at first, but to save time I switched to regular nappies and the first choice was of course eco nappies. Diapers that don't leak are hard to find. Kit Kin was a great choice because you really can have a nappy under you all night without leaking. Plus you can see that the little one is comfortable in them. These diapers don't smell weird themselves and break down faster than regular diapers.''
