Mandarin essential oil is calming and relaxing. It has been used in Chinese medicine and Ayurveda as an oil that relaxes the body and mind and promotes sleep. Tests have shown that mandarin oil is also helpful for anxiety disorders and behavioral disorders. It has also been found to relieve pain and help with nausea. Unlike other citrus fruits, mandarin is not phototoxic and can be safely used immediately before going out in the sun.
Mandarin essential oil is safe for pregnant women and young children to use. However, mandarin is a citrus fruit to which a small number of people may be allergic.
HOW TO USE
As a mood lifter – add mandarin essential oil to an aroma lamp (10 drops) or rub a few drops into the palm of your hand. Place your palms against your nose (avoid touching your eyes) and breathe deeply.
For better sleep – use an aroma lamp in the bedroom or put a few drops of oil on a napkin and place it next to the pillow. The napkin trick works especially well for restless children, who perceive the smell of tangerine as a sense of security and it creates a good sleep routine that the child looks forward to every night.
Anti-aging – add a drop of oil to the palm of your hand and mix it with 5 ml of a carrier oil (e.g. jojoba, macadamia or avocado oil). Apply the mixture to your face at night and let the antioxidants do their work.
As an air freshener – put about 250ml of water in a spray bottle and add 20 drops of mandarin oil. Spray it in the room, on the bed sheets or in places where you don’t want the cat to come and scratch.
As a general cleaner – pour 4 parts water and 1 part 5% vinegar (table vinegar sold in Estonia must be diluted first) and 30 drops of mandarin essential oil into a spray bottle. An ideal cleaner and disinfectant for the kitchen and throughout the household. Shake before use. Pure mandarin essential oil can be used to remove permanent marker stains from smooth surfaces.
As a bath oil – mix a few drops of mandarin essential oil with a base oil and add to bath water. We recommend this for restless children before going to bed. A relaxing bath helps to release the emotions of the day and calms the child down.
Massage oil – mix 10 drops of mandarin oil in 25ml of base oil (sweet almond oil and avocado oil are the best). Give yourself or your partner a nice massage. This mixture can also be used for children, but for babies under 6 months, it is worth being careful or reducing the amounts by 10x.
